10
EASY WAYS YOU
CAN |
| |
FIGHT
HOUSING DISCRIMINATION |
| |
|
|
1. |
Become a member of
Housing Opportunities Made Equal today! Our members are our
strength, and without their support we would not be able to continue to
provide high quality services to anyone in need in our community.
Membership also sends a message that there is strong support for
fair housing. Click here to learn more
about membership. |
| |
|
|
2. |
Don't Discriminate.
A prejudice is an opinion formed about someone without knowing all the
facts. Treat each person as an individual rather than as a member of a
group. |
| |
|
|
3. |
Give financially.
If you are already a member, or do not wish to join at this time, monetary
gifts are always appreciated. This is the easiest way to help for
those who are able. |
| |
|
|
4. |
Attend our Annual Meeting!
This is a fun way to support Housing Opportunities Made Equal during Fair
Housing Month in April while meeting other people who are also supporters
of fair housing. |
| |
|
|
5. |
Make an impact that will
last more than a lifetime, Leave a Legacy. The Leave A Legacy
program makes it easy and rewarding to give to Housing Opportunities Made
Equal in your estate planning. |
| |
|
|
6. |
Get your friends and
family involved! List all of your relatives and friends who are
interested in supporting fair housing. Write to them on your own
stationary asking for them to join HOME; include a HOME membership
brochure (available by contacting us).
Phone the people who do not respond within two weeks. |
| |
|
|
7. |
Tell people you know
about the services that Housing Opportunities Made Equal provides, or
better yet, invite a speaker from HOME to make a presentation.
Our HOME Players and education staff specially tailor interactive and
informative presentations to educate the community about fair housing.
Book a speaker for your organization, business, school or place of worship
today. Click here for more
information. |
| |
|
|
8. |
Get your place of worship
involved. If you, a relative or friend belongs to a church,
synagogue, mosque, temple or meeting house, research whether or not they
maintain a discretionary fund. Sometimes simply writing a letter
will encourage your place of worship to make a gift or allow you to ask
fellow worshippers to make a donation to Housing Opportunities Made Equal. |
| |
|
|
9. |
Give the gift that gives
all year. Don't know what to buy for the person who has
everything? We do! Give the gift of membership to Housing
Opportunities Made Equal. Your designee will receive a special
letter acknowledging your gift. For
more information click here. |
| |
|
|
10. |
When you witness an act
of discrimination, respond actively. Here are just a few ways
you can respond: |
| |
- speak to the perpetrator and find out
why they feel the need to discriminate and explain what they are doing
is damaging. Offer them some other means to reach their goal;
-
report
the discrimination you witnessed to Housing Opportunities Made
Equal;
- offer assistance to the victim and
refer them to Housing Opportunities Made Equal.
