In this
same year in which Housing Opportunities Made Equal has again won
national recognition, successfully concluded a decade-long battle against
discrimination at Marine Drive, and won the largest recovery ever
for a discrimination victim in Western New York, HOME has been rewarded
with a crippling funding cut.
Following our revelation that the City of Buffalo was in violation of a
federal consent decree, HOME’s fair housing contract was cut by 82
percent. HOME has been left with a budget shortfall of nearly $128,000.
Even with a temporary deficit, three of 12 staff positions have already
been eliminated—and more layoffs will follow if we can’t close the budget
gap.
The
Board of Directors has begun a CAMPAIGN FOR HOME. We are asking each of
our supporters to make a one-time contribution (in any amount) to help
HOME raise $128,000—to preserve our ability to do HOME’s essential
work.
The
fact that you are reading this means that you are already
committed to civil rights. If you are a member of HOME already, thanks
for your past support. We now ask that you make an additional commitment
of a one-time contribution.
If you
are not a member, please consider becoming a
member at this time to show your support for Western New York’s
ONLY agency to provide comprehensive services for victims of housing
discrimination. This is a meaningful way to show your desire to live in a
community free from discrimination. |
