HOME’s Assistant Director for Mobility Services,
David A. Wright,
has been appointed to the
New York
State
Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights.
The Commission is a bipartisan federal agency established under the Civil
Rights Act of 1957 to investigate complaints that citizens are being
deprived of their right to vote; collect and study information relating to
denial of constitutional rights; serve as a national clearinghouse for
information about discrimination; assess Federal laws and policies; and
submit reports and recommendations regarding these matters to the
President and Congress.
The State Advisory Committee, on which Mr. Wright serves, assists the
Commission with its fact-finding, investigative, and information
dissemination functions. Its members are citizens selected for their
familiarity with local and state civil rights issues.
During law school, Mr. Wright worked as a student attorney in the
Affordable Housing Clinic assisting community based organizations to
develop subsidized housing. He worked in law firms in Westfield and
Buffalo before joining HOME in 1998, and volunteers as a weekend site
supervisor for Habitat for Humanity of Buffalo. Mr. Wright brings to the
Commission the qualities he contributes to HOME—legal expertise, community
involvement and a commitment to civil rights. |
