Governor
Patacki, in his State of the State address indicated that he favors
passage of The Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act (SONDA). This
bill would extend civil rights protections in New York State by adding the
words “sexual orientation” to the New York State Human Rights Law.
SONDA has
passed in the State Assembly as it has every year since 1993. The bill
will once again go to the State Senate for approval and, if passed, will
be sent to Governor Patacki to be signed into law. HOME has endorsed this
bill and was in agreement with the Governor when he said, “Let’s extend
the hate crimes law by passing the Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination
Act.”
